A good knife is one of the few gifts that gets used every day and lasts for decades, and it is easy to get wrong if you guess at the size, the type or the law where the person lives. This guide sorts the TEKTO® lineup by budget and by the kind of person you are buying for, then covers the parts that matter for a gift: engraving, the gift card, timing, returns, and a warranty that follows the knife to its new owner.
The Short Version
If you want one answer, give the A2 Badger. It is our best-selling knife, a small out-the-front automatic with a 1.85-inch blade that rides on a keychain or in a coin pocket, it starts at $139.99, and it is legal to carry in more places than a full-size automatic, California included. For someone who would rather have a classic folding knife, the F3 Charlie starts at $129.99 and gives you a full-size 3.80-inch blade and a button lock. For the hunter or camper, the X1 Atlas is our made-in-the-USA MagnaCut fixed blade at $249.99. For the person who already owns good knives, the A5 Spry in bronze with a MagnaCut blade is the box to open last, at $299.99. And when you are not sure, the TEKTO gift card lets them choose.
Gifts Under $150
F1 Alpha, $119.99 to $139.99. The folder we hand to anyone buying their first good knife. A 3.10-inch titanium-coated D2 blade with a full flat grind, a flipper that rolls open on ceramic ball bearings, a liner lock, and a glass breaker on the butt of the handle. It comes in six handle styles, from black G10 to forged carbon, and at 3.03 ounces it disappears in a pocket. Our F1 Alpha guide covers it in full.
F3 Charlie, $129.99 to $149.99. The most knife for the money in the lineup. A 3.80-inch drop point, a button lock that works in either hand, and a 5.20-inch handle in black or OD green G10, forged carbon, or a Damascus-pattern G10 that looks like layered steel. It is the gift for someone with big hands or real work to do. See the F3 Charlie guide.
A2 Badger, $139.99 to $159.99. Our best seller. A double-action out-the-front automatic, which means one push of the thumb fires the blade out and one pull brings it home, with a 1.85-inch double edge or tanto blade in titanium-coated D2. The handle is aluminum in black, desert or OD green, or carbon fiber, and the whole knife weighs 2.18 ounces. It is the knife people show their friends. The A2 Badger guide explains why it sells.
F2 Bravo, $139.99 to $149.99. The lightest TEKTO folder at 2.4 ounces, with a 3.30-inch drop point and a liner lock. Six handle styles, including two forged carbon versions, Forged Ember and the Damascus-pattern G10, make it the folder for someone who cares how a knife looks as much as how it cuts. Read the F2 Bravo guide.
F1 x EOTECH, $139.99. The F1 Alpha made with EOTECH, the optics company, with EOTECH's logo on the blade and the pivot, liners colored to match, and a G10 handle. The gift for the shooter on your list who already has the red dot. The EOTECH Edition story tells how it came about.
Gifts From $150 to $200
F2 x EOTECH, $169.99. This one began as EOTECH's 30th anniversary knife: the F2 Bravo's light frame with a 3.30-inch tanto blade and a forged carbon handle. A collector's folder that still gets carried.
A3 Delta, $179.99 to $199.99. A side-opening automatic, so the blade swings out of the handle at the press of a button instead of firing out the front. A 3.60-inch D2 drop point, plain or serrated, a safety switch that locks the button, and a big G10 or forged carbon handle that works in gloves. The knife for first responders, tradespeople and anyone who works with cold or covered hands. The A3 Delta guide has the details.
A5 Spry Mini, $179.99. The step up from the Badger: the same 1.85-inch size and California-legal blade length, in S35VN stainless steel instead of D2, with a choice of double edge, drop point or tanto. For the person who wants a small knife and a better steel. Our Spry Mini vs Badger comparison lays out the choice.
F4 Echo, $199.99. The folder we make with Zastava, the Serbian arms maker. A 3.40-inch S35VN reverse tanto with a strong tip, a button lock, and an aluminum frame with G10 inlays in Serbian red, American walnut or black, at 2.64 ounces. The gift with a story behind it. See the F4 Echo guide.
Gifts Over $200
X1 Atlas, $249.99. Our fixed blade, made in the USA. A 3.30-inch CPM MagnaCut drop point with a full tang, a G10 handle in black, OD green or desert, and a Kydex sheath. MagnaCut holds an edge a long time and shrugs off blood, salt and rain, which makes it the gift for the person who dresses their own deer or spends weekends in the woods. The X1 Atlas guide covers it.
A5 Spry, $249.99 to $299.99. Our flagship out-the-front automatic. A 3.50-inch blade in S35VN with a black or OD green aluminum handle in double edge, drop point or tanto, or the bronze edition with a MagnaCut double edge blade at $299.99. It is the knife for someone who carries every day and wants the best version of it. Read the A5 Spry guide.
A7 Zastava, $274.99. The out-the-front automatic we make with Zastava Arms USA, with a 3.60-inch S35VN double edge or spear point blade and an aluminum handle with wood inlays in Serbian red, American walnut or black. The one for the collector, and for anyone who owns a Zastava rifle or pistol. The A7 Zastava guide tells the story.
Picking by the Person
A first good knife. Start with the F1 Alpha or the A2 Badger. Both are light, simple to use and sharpen, and priced so the first one does not have to be the last. If the person has never carried an automatic, our automatic vs folding guide helps you pick the type.
The everyday carrier. Someone who opens boxes, cuts cord and trims tags all day wants a blade of 3 to 4 inches. The F2 Bravo and F3 Charlie on the folding side, the A5 Spry on the automatic side.
The hunter and the camper. The X1 Atlas, with no pivot or lock to clean blood and grit out of, and a sheath on the belt. Our hunting knife guide explains what matters for field dressing.
First responders and the trades. The A3 Delta for gloved hands and the F1 Alpha for its glass breaker, and for departments that do not allow automatics on duty. The first responders guide covers both.
The collector. The A7 Zastava, the F2 x EOTECH, the F4 Echo and the bronze A5 Spry. Each has a story, a finish you do not see on every belt, and a reason to stay in the box for a while.
Someone in a strict state. Manual folders and the X1 Atlas are legal to own in every state, and the limits that do exist are on carry, usually blade length or concealment. Automatics are where the law varies. In California, the A2 Badger and the A5 Spry Mini keep their blades under the 2-inch line. Check the person's state in our Knife Laws by State guide and see our California-legal OTFs before you buy.
A left-handed carrier. An out-the-front knife fires with the thumb the same way in either hand, which makes the OTFs an easy gift for a lefty. Our left-handed guide covers the rest of the lineup.
Make It Personal With Engraving
Every TEKTO knife can be engraved on the blade for $9.99. You get up to 25 characters, spaces included, which fits a name, initials, a date or a short line. The laser marks only the surface, so the blade's strength and edge are unchanged. Two things to know for a gift: engraving adds 7 to 10 business days before the knife ships, and engraved knives are final sale, so check the spelling twice. For a logo, a symbol or several matching knives for a team or a wedding party, email engraving@tektoknives.com before you order.
When You Cannot Decide: The Gift Card
The TEKTO digital gift card comes in any amount from $50 to $1,000 in $50 steps. You enter the recipient's name and email and a message of up to 200 characters, and they get a code to use at checkout on tektoknives.com. It never expires and works on sale items too. It is the right call for someone who already owns a few knives and has opinions about the next one.
Small Add-Ons
For a stocking or to round out a knife, the TEKTO lanyard at $14.99 is six inches of 550 paracord with a titanium bead, in black, OD green or desert, and it makes a knife easier to find in a pocket and to pull from it. The TEKTO counter mat at $29.99 gives a knife a place to sit on the desk or the workbench, and the TEKTO PVC patch at $7.99, or three for $19.99, goes on a pack, a hat or a range bag.
Timing, Returns and the Warranty
Timing. Orders ship within 24 hours on business days, and US delivery takes 2 to 4 days depending on where the knife is going. US shipping is included, and express in the US is $9.99 for any order. An engraved knife needs its 7 to 10 business days first, so order an engraved gift at least three weeks ahead, more in December when every carrier is busy.
Returns. If the knife is not the right one, it can come back within 30 days of delivery in its original packaging, and for US orders we email a prepaid return label. Engraved knives are the exception, as above. The full terms are on our return policy.
The warranty. Every TEKTO knife is covered by the TEKTO lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the knife, whoever owns it. No receipt is needed for a claim, so the person you give it to is covered the same as if they had bought it, and so is whoever they pass it on to.
Outside the US. We do not ship automatic knives to Canada. Folders and the X1 Atlas can go there, and the customs rules where the knife lands are the buyer's to check.
An Old Custom Worth Keeping
In many places, giving someone a knife is said to cut the friendship. The old fix is a coin: tape a penny to the box, and the person who gets the knife hands the coin back, so the knife was bought, not given. It costs one cent, it starts a conversation, and the knife still does what you gave it for.

People Are Asking
What is a good knife gift for someone who has never carried one?
The F1 Alpha or the A2 Badger. The F1 Alpha is a light 3.10-inch folder with a flipper and a liner lock, and the A2 Badger is our best-selling knife, a small out-the-front automatic with a 1.85-inch blade. Both are simple to use and sharpen and start under $140.
Is it bad luck to give a knife as a gift?
An old superstition says a knife cuts the friendship. The traditional fix is to tape a coin to the gift and have the person hand it back, so the knife was bought rather than given. It costs a penny and makes a good story.
How long does engraving take?
Engraving adds 7 to 10 business days before the knife ships, and shipping time comes after that. Order an engraved gift at least three weeks ahead, and remember engraved knives are final sale.
Does the person I give it to get the warranty?
Yes. The TEKTO lifetime warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the knife, whoever owns it, and no receipt is needed for a claim.
Can I give an automatic knife as a gift?
In most states, yes, but the law where the person lives decides it. Check their state in our Knife Laws by State guide first. The A2 Badger and the A5 Spry Mini keep their blades under 2 inches, which is the line in California. We do not ship automatic knives to Canada.
What if they want a different knife?
An unengraved knife can come back within 30 days of delivery in its original packaging, and we email a prepaid return label for US orders. If you are not sure what they want, the TEKTO digital gift card runs from $50 to $1,000 and never expires.
